The Enterprise Systems team has been working with Oracle to identify the cause of links in the portal not working from connections outside of the Pullman campus network. We have identified the cause of this issue and there is a bug within the PeopleTools software upgrade that was installed into the portal this past weekend. This bug causes links from within the portal to be directed to a non-accessible web address, which produces a timed out message, a blank screen or just a spinning icon. We are now working with Oracle to get the patch that fixes this bug installed into one of our development environments so we can test and confirm that the patch does correct the error. Once confirmed, we will start the multi-step process for getting the patch installed into the zzusis portal to correct the links errors.
While we are working out that schedule, there are two work arounds we have identified that will allow end users connecting from locations away from the Pullman campus to still be able to access the links listed in the zzusis portal pages.
The first work around is to identify the name of the link you want to access in the portal, for example “Housing on Campus”. Then, open a new browser window and navigate to the WSU home page. Use the Search WSU box or button and then type in the name of the page you are trying to access within the portal “Housing on Campus” and search. From the search results, you will be able to locate the web page or resource you needed and you can click on the URL link from the search results to access that page from outside of the portal.
A second work around would be to use the SSL VPN to connect securely to the WSU Pullman network from any off-camus location. Once connected to the VPN, you can log into zzusis to access any of the links. The instructions to set up your computer to connect to the VPN can be found at this WSU ITS web page: https://infotech.wsu.edu/NetworkService/VPN/VPN.aspx
I will update the campus community once we have the patch installed and we have resolved the issue with the portal links not working when end users connect to zzusis from locations away from the Pullman campus.
